Tarpan, small species of wild horse, which is now extinct. The tarpan, sometimes considered to be the same as Przewalski's wild horse, had a stocky body and short legs, and stood about 1.2 to 1.35 m (about 4 to 5 ft) high at the shoulder. In color it was generally gray. The tail and mane were black.

The Bosnian Pony is of Tarpan origin and is like the Hucul and Konik. The Bosnian is the most numerous breed of the Balkan group of ponies and is widely spread from the Adriatic coast to the Black Sea and throughout former Yugoslavia.
